Hopes and Dreams Foundation has developed a commitment with youth and families by increasing engagement within their community, schools, local businesses, peer groups, and families in a manner that is productive and constructive, that recognizes, utilizes, and enhances the community’s strength and promotes positive outcomes for young people by providing opportunities, fostering positive relationships, and furnishing the support needed to build on their leadership strengths.
Not only will our organization keep youth engaged, but it also opens resources and opportunities to keep them busy and focused instead of facing peer pressure and wrong decision making. Our commitment to the community, youth and families in our organization will lead to an increase in growth, better paying jobs, stronger and healthier community ties and decreased risk of crime in
the neighboring community. Hopes and Dreams Foundation aims high to continue community outreach, by providing support to youth and helping them develop skills, academically,
behaviorally, and socially, and emotionally.
We will boost their knowledge and confidence to allow youth to become leaders of purpose and integrity while eliminating the barriers that bring a form of adversity to a child’s progress. We understand that the focus is slightly different at each age level, but the goal remains the same, empowering youth to make positive changes in his/her life. We will meet the culturally specific needs of our youth and family population by developing a cultural understanding for youth and the communities they live in, we make the case for youth to recognize the cultural dimension of themselves and of others they interact with by sustaining a positive, open mind towards differences.
When knowledge and skills are found within the lived experiences and cultural contexts of youth, they are more meaningful and more engaging. We will reduce acts of violence committed by local area at risk youth and break the misguided traits of adulthood and stereotypical views of youth throughout the community. We are designed to build strength and togetherness for families and the community by empowering their self-confidence and worth, and help youth set goals that lead to success in every area of their life.
Empowering youth must be multifaceted at the state level, community level, and family level, each of these levels having its own set of responsibility and tools.
Hopes and Dreams Foundation understands how we operate matters as much as our organization's focus. Hopes and Dreams Foundation believes leaders are community builders as well as role models, we aim to bring leadership qualities out of every individual. Leaders know where they come from, and they understand their strengths and areas for growth in their lives. Every youth’s story and opinion matter and every youth’s voice are important. We will give youth and families the tools to make positive life choices and have a sense of their own personal power. This form of impact will allow youth to speak up and become their own advocates to bring change, not only to the community but to their peers as well.
Hopes and Dreams will assist youth in reaching their full potential as healthy and well-adjusted individuals and strengthen the connection of youth in the community. We strive to create opportunities that will encourage youth and families to embrace change and growth and be the voice that the community needs. Our population of talented and bright young people is among our greatest assets, and we refuse to be stagnant and block youth and families from fulfilling their potential. Our name and mission are all about connection, connecting needs with skills, connecting families with resources, and connecting youth with opportunities.
Only when we connect the hopes and dreams of our youth with the tools to realize them will we build strong cities, communities, and lifestyles. Hopes and Dreams Foundation is a creative community-based organization with creative community-based programs, amenities and resources that will help youth and families express their opinions to give them a sense of identity and belonging. It will help them create strong ties to the community and give them a sense of importance. By listening to their point of view, and not judging, instead guiding them to refine their ideas, discuss with them respectfully, and assure them that their voices matter, and what they do makes a difference. We all must make it a priority to empower youth for our communities, our region, our world, and our future. Hopes and Dreams Foundation believes that faith is the ultimate first step, and with that first step anything can be accomplished.

The Hopes & Dreams Foundation is excited to announce that due to strong community partnerships, we are able to offer holiday supports to all children in your home! Our generous community partners will provide each child in your home with a minimum of 1 gift this holiday season. To request holiday support, please complete this survey for EVERY child in your home (ages birth – 18) and submit it by SUNDAY, OCTOBER 6, 2024. Our GIFT DISTRIBUTION event will take place on Saturday December 14, 2024, at the Center at Norpoint.

About Us
Hopes and Dreams Foundation is a non-profit organization established in 2011 that provides a variety of programs and services to children, youth, and families. Hopes and Dreams Foundation’s goal is to foster a commitment to young people and the community that will promote prosocial friendship, strong interpersonal skills, and reassert a sense of hope in their future. Only through personal relationships can a sense of individual responsibility be reestablished. This will give children/youth and the community the commitment to follow through on a path to adulthood and a healthier active community with a sense of pride and accomplishment.
Hopes and Dreams Foundation is in the Direct response to the growing number of at-risk youths that are falling through the cracks of life, from broken homes, schools, gang violence, foster care, and homelessness.
Personal BIO
I’m Mike Reid, the founder and CEO of Hopes and Dreams Foundation. My desire and passion for helping others come from my personal life experiences. At the young age of 11 my lovely parents divorced which caused a very traumatic change that brought along fear, depression, insecurities of self, and behaviors. These changes caused me to be very observant of my surroundings and my upbringing in my adolescent years. Going through struggles of, poverty, and many other setbacks caused me to look at life through a different Lense. At a young age I discovered I had a great admiration for helping people in need, my heart was always heavy when seeing someone less fortunate, or going through hard times, because I understood the feeling. I remember endless nights wondering if there was a better way to change my situation as well as others. I didn’t understand why I felt the need to help and give back so strongly. It seemed the more I went through, the stronger my passion grew for youth, families and the community. I ran from the feeling throughout my teenage years chasing dreams that were never meant to come true, looking for my identity when I already knew who I was. Being a giver, it just didn’t seem like the cool thing to do, it didn’t fit in with my peers, so I felt why waste the time. I quickly learned no matter how much you run, your purpose will always get your attention, even if I had to walk through the thrones to reach the roses, I always believed that by faith and determination, no mountain is impossible to climb, and no road is too long to travel but I knew I had to put action behind it. At the age of 28 when life seemed to be falling apart, I knew and felt it was time for my purpose to be my focus, I began to trust in God and understand that God has a plan for me. I put all my hopes and dreams in God’s hands and stepped out on faith to build the vision God gave me. These adversities I faced helped me become the person I am today, these adversities taught me a lesson that changed my perspective and shaped who I am and who I want to be in the future. Compassion began to grow, and I started thinking deeply about helping youth and families in the community around me as much as possible. So, I began living a life of service by being receptive to the needs of others and by being a voice to the underserved. This principle of valuing all people while committing to a life of service is something I have strived for throughout my life. On December 1st, 2011, I stepped out on faith with a vision to change the world. I created a flier and went door to door inviting low-income families to our first Christmas event. I had no funds to purchase food, I had no location to have the event, all I had was faith, a vision and a heart to give back. I passed out more than 50 fliers receiving 55 family sign ups, but I knew that God would make a way. I began networking and sharing my vision which led to a free location as
well as a catering service who was willing to cater to the event for free. That was a huge milestone for me, and it gave me the courage to keep dreaming and showed me the importance of trusting God. Stepping out on faith with nothing led to a greater something. My journey has not been an easy one, I had lots of ups and downs, and sometimes doubt spoke louder than anything, testing my faith every day, but i learned to fight, I learned to trust, and never give up, believing that one day in time every good seed planted will bring a great harvest

My name is Gina Coheley and I’m a school counselor for Tacoma Public Schools. I’ve worked in education for 13 years and have previously worked at the Muckleshoot Tribal School on the Muckleshoot Reservation, Chief Leschi Schools serving the students & community of the Puyallup Tribe of Indians and at Northeast Tacoma Elementary and Meeker Middle School both part of Tacoma Public Schools. I’ve have had the amazing opportunity to have the Hopes and Dreams Foundation serve our boys grades 3rd – 5th at Northeast Tacoma Elementary from February 2017- Present. The Battle Ground Boys group has created a legacy of empowering our young boys, especially our young boys of color. Our boys learned and practiced social & emotional skills, developed their characters as young men, discussed real world life events and so much more. The Battle Ground Boys group created an inclusive and equitable environment where all members of the group felt seen, heard and like a family! I can say that in my 13 years of education, the Battle Ground Boys group has been the strongest program that I have partnered with to offer to my students and has created the strongest impact. With the Battleground continuing at Northeast Tacoma Elementary I also have moved up to our feeder middle school, Meeker, and our young men are begging for Battle Ground Boys group this year! Every young man in the group from our last class of 3rd graders that our now 6th graders to our first class of 5th graders that are now 10th graders have begged to continue the Battle Ground Boys groups. This group has created a legacy of empowering young men, given our young men a sense of purpose, has provided a safe community for them to take risks to fall forward, and provided a family environment where boys who feel alone know someone in the group and mentors have their back! I have had the privilege of working with Hopes and Dreams Foundation to implement fundraisers for and to serve our local community and I can personally tell you that their always, all in to do whatever they can to serve the children, parents, and community. I give the highest honors to the Hopes and Dreams Foundation, this organization Does amazing work, in our community, and youth and families beyond, need their programing.
I am so grateful the hopes and dreams Foundation and The Journey program. Before them I had several issues with different agencies not wanting to accommodate my visit schedule or having the compassion and understanding it took for me and my children to be reunited. I had been through multiple visiting supervisors and a company that dropped us because they wanted to look the other way instead of seeing the true importance of their job duty. Hopes and Dreams instantly took us in and knew exactly who to assign for our case and they were spot on! I felt understood and heard instead of just being another case number. They truly accommodated all our long distance traveling needs and scheduling needs and really showed their goal of trying to reunite our family and it worked in just a few months, the agency was able to gain better insight that came from the professional aspect and mouth of the company. Hopes And Dreams really has the insight and trained professional staff to address and handle all your needs. Thanks to The Journey Program my family went from supervised visits to overnights and returned home where they belong all in a timely manner and We are well on our way to beginning our own new journey as a family unit. They are #1 in my book for facilitating family's best interest, being heard, not being judged, and treated as actual human beings with compassion and understanding. The Journey Program is the perfect combination of professional and personable! They multiple programs and resources that me and my children participate in, and we love being a part of. Thank you Hopes and dreams foundation for making our dream come true I truly feel without this company my case would have taken a completely different path! Thank you for believing in me ...
